The YMCA of Central Ohio has been an essential part of Columbus neighborhoods for 155 years, by providing essential services that build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. Beginning in 1855 in the lecture rooms of the First Presbyterian Church at State and Third Streets in Downtown Columbus, the YMCA now serves 11 neighborhoods with full-facility branches, an Outdoor Education Center and Park and YMCA Camp Willson in Bellefontaine, OH. Groundbreaking for our newest Y will take place in June 2010 for the Delaware YMCA Community Center. ymcacolumbus.org

The South Branch YMCA Community Center was simply an old house and a playground but served as the only recreational facility in the neighborhood. Ms. Steward was known to do her own repairs to the equipment so that the children who came to the center would not be disappointed.TAGS: YMCA, YMCA of Central Ohio -
