South Side YMCA

In 1918 activities of the South Side Industrial YMCA included social, religious, physical, educational and thrift programs. Weekly meetings were held during the noon hour, offering inspirational and educational guidance.

The South Branch YMCA Community Center was simply an old house and a playground but served as the only recreational facility in the neighborhood. Ms. Steward was known to do her own repairs to the equipment so that the children who came to the center would not be disappointed.
