In 1918 activities of the South Side Industrial YMCA included social, religious, physical, educational and thrift programs. Weekly meetings were held during the noon hour, offering inspirational and educational guidance.

Located on Woodland Avenue, the East Side YMCA was completed in 1962, and rededicated as the Eldon & Elsie Ward Family YMCA in 1997.

The Downtown YMCA provided endeavors for men and women alike. From dances to choral groups, Columbus residents found many opportunities to build community at the YMCA. By the late 1950s, women and girls were permitted full membership to the YMCA. Above is the Downtown YMCA Civic Choral Society, 1939.

The call of the big city drew many young men away from the farm life. As multitudes flocked to the cities, the Columbus YMCA became home to hundreds of earnest and hardworking young men. In addition to accommodations and leisure activities,the Y provided reading rooms and parlors for Christian study and endeavors of the mind, fulfilling the mission to build spirit, mind and body.
