This is a photo taken in 1897 at the Franklinton Centennial Grounds located north of the ODOT Building on West Broad Street. The rock is still there but almost hidden in the weeds and trees and not in this condition.

Robert and Lois Meyer

Bob and Lois (Garnett) Meyer grew up in the "bottoms" of Columbus. They were married at Holy Family Church on West Broad Street on April 6, 1942. Probably like a lot of people, they got married at 7:30am on a weekday, and then they both went to work. Bob was a pilot in the Air Force during WWII, and Lois stayed home and raised six kids!

Holy Family Church survived major floods (1913 and 1957), a fire in the mid-1950s and the incursion of three freeways.

Franklinton

About this neighborhood

Columbus's historical roots are firmly planted in Franklinton, Central Ohio's first settlement, and the downtown area, the seat of state government. It's the story of determined pioneers, devastating floods, a vision for a state capital rising from higher ground, and flourishing theatres, churches, businesses, and government buildings.
